Bernie Bucks found in archconservative pockets

Found a disturbing little factoid while trolling the Internet this evening.

I came across a Politico piece about Bernie Sanders’ campaign spending reports. Surprise, surprise: he spends a lot of money for those big hairy rallies, as well as the usual stuff of big-time campaigns — staff, consultants, polling, and…

… food.

Prepare yourself. Here comes the shocker.

One area where Sanders wasn’t very spendthrift was catering. His February campaign bill was only about $49,000 on catering, including about $620 on Chick-fil-A, $1,140 on Subway and $1088 on Panera Bread.

Wait wait wait. Did they just say… Chick-fil-A?

The antigay, archconservative Chick-fil-A?

The Chick-fil-A that has donated millions to organizations that conduct “conversion therapy” to allegedly “pray away the gay”?

The Chick-fil-A that tried to put Vermont’s own Bo Muller-Moore out of business on a trumped-up copyright infringement case?

Well, there isn’t another one.

Somebody got a little careless on a takeout run. Or they just couldn’t control their hankerin’ for those sweet, deep-fried forbidden fruits.

Six hundred thirty-two dollars. Why, that’s equivalent to about 25 of Bernie’s small individual donations. Wonder how those unlucky folks would feel about their money going into Chick-fil-A’s pockets?

There’s a big who-gives-a-damn. I gave him 27 bux and bought shit from Wal-mart later in the day. I’m such a damn hypocrite. And I’m typing this on a device manufactured by an evil corporation. And there’s polyester in my PJs. Let’s not even talk about high-fructose corn syrup.

Everybody has to eat and you are really starting to sweat the small stuff. At least he feeds his people and pays his interns. His staff handled the food so he may not have even known about the dam chik-filet.

Ohhhh, c’mon now. You’re taking this a lot more seriously than I did. I’m sorry if I didn’t communicate clearly enough; I honestly don’t think this is a big deal. Just kind of surprising that someone in a progressive, Vermont-based campaign wouldn’t know about Chick-fil-A’s history.

The bigot who owned chik-fil-a and directed its policy died last year; the heirs and assigns have backed off the gay bashing he engaged in.
